I first met David Swindle when I spoke at Ball State University a few years ago. At the time he was a political science major and the student of Professor George Wolfe, a music professor who doubled as head of the Ball State Peace Sudies program and whom I had accused of indoctrinating his classes in a knee-jerk radicalism. My encounter with Swindle was a most unpleasant experience. Influenced by the slanders of the academic left and outraged that I had criticized his teacher and friend, David attacked me from the audience at my speech. It is always distressing to see how young minds have been poisoned and closed by leftist teachers but this was a particularly disturbing case since David was an obviously intelligent young man.
For reasons which David can best explain himself, the story did not end there. David stayed interested in my work and when he read my eulogy for my daughter he suddenly became aware that there was a thinking human being behind the mask that liberal smear artists had painted over my face. David wrote to me --this time in more civil tones -- first to continue the argument over Wolfe and his courses and then to see if I would consider a dialogue with Wolfe himself. I agreed. While this was going on, David created a website which he called Books In Depth and began a close reading and analysis of what I had written. I think the result is most interesting and encourage one and all to look at it.
Here is link to my dialogue with Ball State Professor George Wolfe over his teaching methods and curricula.
