"There's a lot of water yet to pass under the bridge -- events, debates, revised strategies." That was the loophole I created for myself when I predicted a McCain landslide. Obviously the most important of these unpredictables was events and obviously the biggest financial meltdown in the history of the world is an event-changing event all in itself. And that's what's happened. There's been a seven point shift in the polls from McCain to Obama since this crisis broke and since I made my prediction. I still think McCain-Palin will win but given the magnitude of the catastrophe the party in power has presided over (and yes I know the Democrats and their policies played an enormous role in making it happen -- but then Republicans are hardly blameless) and given the wild and sometimes unprincipled flailing of the McCain campaign, I would be foolish to hang on to the prediction. I think with any other candidate (except maybe Joe Biden) the Democrats would be winning this in a walk. So I'm not going to revise the direction of my prediction but I will damp down its amplitude.
