Profiles in Radicalism By: Lee Kaplan

Pictured above are two ISM anarchists photographed recently in the West Bank village of Bi’lin while seeking to interfere with the Israeli army. Every Friday, the ISM incites a riot in the local mosque. It is led by anarchist activists from the United States and Europe. The man on the left has a pierced chin; the woman in the foreground needs dental work. If you have any idea who these people are and where they are from, please email us at www.stoptheISM.com.

Stop the ISM has received correspondence from many of the parents of ISM activists here in the United States. They ask us how to prevent their children from going to the West Bank to aid terrorists and to try to tear down a security fence that prevents suicide bombers from entering Israel. These parents are typically embarrassed that their children would work to help a totalitarian regime like the Palestinian Authority, which teaches children to be suicide bombers. Most parents, in fact, hate the fact that their offspring disparage the United States and support Saddam Hussein and his Ba’ath Party, the PLO’s closest ally. In almost every instance, those parents speak of how their children are estranged from their families and they acknowledge that their activism played no small part in the break-up of the family.

But ISM activists are hard to identify. One reason is that they use only their first names in meetings. This is in keeping with their view of themselves as revolutionaries or anarchists working for a subversive organization. Recently, they have rolled out a propaganda campaign to re-brand themselves “peace activists.”

Nothing could be further from the truth. What the ISM and its members do is roil the Israeli-Palestinian conflict indefinitely. That is because they believe that “peace” will come only when Israel ceases to exist as a democratic Jewish refuge, becoming another Arab-Muslim dominated state. Moreover, there is nothing peaceful about their tactics. In Bi’lin, for example, they are given to violence, attacking the police and providing cover for stone throwers and others who attack the Israeli army. They’re mission is not to end war but to prolong it until Israel’s defeat is a reality, rather than a slogan.

But not all ISM activists are kids. Some are aging hippies and communists from the ’60s antiwar movement. The white haired gentleman in the center of the above picture was photographed at a Hamas rally near Ramallah last year. Some people never grow up.

And these are the real leaders of the ISM:

Above are Hamas operatives who lead the rallies and unending riots for news cameras. They think nothing of using ISM activists as canon fodder -- young people such as Rachel Corrie and Tom Hurndall. Note the Hamas flag behind the man at left.

This is what was seen at the Hamas rally:

The youth above sports a sweatshirt emblazoned with the insignia of the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigade, another known terrorist group. Al Aksa and Hamas both support the destruction of Israel and ethnic cleansing of Jews from the Middle East.

The ISM activist above gets himself arrested by the Israeli Border Police. Note the defiance stamped across his sneering face: He knows he can expect generous treatment from his captors. And in fact he will be released after a few hours. At worst, an agreement will be made for him to stay out of the West Bank for two weeks.

This kid-glove treatment of Israel’s enemies is the legacy of Israel’s leftist Supreme Court. Israel is a democracy and, as such, is reluctant to curtail freedom of speech. Yet it seems willing to endanger its own soldiers by allowing a revolving-door legal system that allows the ISM activists to campaign for Israel’s destruction with impunity.

Stop the ISM wants to identify these people. They do not aspire to bring a peaceful end to the Israel/Palestinian conflict, but rather to perpetuate the idea that Israel must become Palestine or that a two state solution won’t work. The ISM has gotten itself into universities, churches and trade unions in the United States with this one encompassing goal of destroying Israel. It is now time that the public, including the parents of ISM activists, know the names of all these individuals who break the law in the Middle East, who encourage conflict and who ultimately support those who would destroy our democratic society.

We will post photos weekly of ISM activists in the West Bank asking for their full names and the communities and schools where they were recruited or where they work. It is time to identify these extremists. We at Stop the ISM believe that FrontPage Magazine readers can help in this endeavor. Feel free to post this article on your campus, in your church, in your synagogue, or elsewhere. It might just help shorten the War on Terror and help usher in real peace in the Middle East. If you recognize any of these people or simply want to volunteer to help, e-mail us at stoptheISM@att.net.
