Zimbabwe Prez Declares Open Season on Whites By: Frontpagemag.com
FrontPageMagazine.com | Tuesday, June 20, 2000

Since February, violent armed mobs have been seizing white-owned farms – evicting, beating and sometimes killing their owners -- all with the full support of President Robert Mugabe. Most black Zimbabweans oppose the reign of terror. Zimbabwe voters rejected farm confiscations in a referendum. But, as Al Sharpton has shown in New York, demagogues don't need majority support to get their way.

Zimbabwe no Kosovo, Says U.S. Congress

Armed mobs, encouraged by President Mugabe, have seized white-owned farms in Zimbabwe, raping and killing some owners. Despite Clinton's pledge to fight ethnic oppression around the world with U.S. force, neither he nor the U.S. Congress regards Zimbabwe's anti-white violence as any big deal. "I don't think we're of a mind to intervene there," says Republican Senator Larry E. Craig of Idaho. "I don't think to the American people it is that visible."

Fearing Zimbabwe-Style Violence, South Africa Gives Land to Blacks

South Africa will give away 30 percent of its state-owned land to black farmers, in an effort to stave off the sort of violent land grabs currently afflicting Zimbabwe. Land and Agricultural Affairs Minister Thoko Didiza said the government would also welcome "donations" of farm land from white farmers.

Hundreds of Zimbabweans supporting President Robert Mugabe's ruling party started occupying white-owned farms in February. The farm invasions started just days after voters rejected a proposed constitution that would have allowed the seizure of farmland without compensation, and increased Mugabe's already sweeping powers.

The illegal occupation of white-owned land in Zimbabwe continues. President Mugabe has ordered police not to remove illegal occupiers from white-owned farms.

Mugabe: Whites Will Never Be Equal 6/17/00
President Robert Mugabe said Saturday that whites may live in Zimbabwe, but they will never have a voice equal to that of blacks. "The whites can be citizens in our country, or residents, but not our cousins. They are the greatest racists in the world," Mugabe said in a speech.

Mugabe Embraced Marxism in College 2/15/00
Robert Mugabe rose from a peasant herdboy to become a teacher, political prisoner and guerrilla chieftain. An intellectual who embraced Marxism as he worked his way through six university degrees, Mugabe was hailed as a liberator when he won 1980 elections which ended white-minority rule. But today, he faces growing opposition sparked by the perception that he runs a ruthless and corrupt government which enriches itself while the people become poorer.
