The Hefty Bill for Slavery - and Freedom (Part 2 of 2) (2/8/01)
By Jeff Jacoby

The idea that blacks are entitled to special benefits in the present to make up for injustice and mistreatment in the past is hardly new. Over the last 30 years, racial preferences of all kinds have become commonplace. From law school admissions to government contracts, from police promotions to teacher layoffs, the practice of ''reverse discrimination'' has grown so routine that many Americans take it for granted.

Does America Owe Reparations? (2/7/01)
By Walter Williams

Slavery was a gross violation of human rights. Justice would demand that slave owners make compensatory reparation payments to slaves. Since both slaves and slave owners are no longer with us, compensation is beyond our reach. Absent from the reparations debate is who pays? Which Americans owe black people what? Reparations advocates don't want that question asked, but let's you and I ask it.

No Reparations for Slavery (Part 1 of 2) (2/5/01)
By Jeff Jacoby

February is Black History Month, and the demand for reparations to compensate for the worst chapter in black American history - slavery - is being heard more insistently than ever.

Why American Blacks Deserve Reparations (2/5/01)
By Salim Muwakkil

Many white Americans just don't get the concept of paying reparations for racial slavery. Why, they ask, should I be taxed, solicited or be any way inconvenienced for something neither my ancestors nor I had anything to do with?

Forum Puts Reparations for Slavery into Spotlight (2/2/01)
Having agreed that the nation owes a substantial debt to black Americans for years of unpaid slave labor, academics and activists will meet in Chicago this weekend to brainstorm exactly how that debt should be repaid.

Senegal President Says Africans Are Their Own Worst Enemy (1/30/01)
The African dignitaries were supposed to be meeting to talk about their demand for reparations from Europeans for the slave trade and colonialism. But Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade would have none of it.

Mongolia Must Pay Reparations to Whites (1/19/01)
By Richard Poe
Whether we like it or not, it looks as if Uncle Sam is going to use our tax dollars to pay reparations to blacks. We can't stop the reparations juggernaut. But we can get our piece of the action. We European-Americans must demand immediate reparations from Mongolia.

Ten Reasons Why Reparations for Blacks is a Bad Idea for Blacks - and Racist Too (Abridged Version) (1/3/01)
By David Horowitz

US Lawyers to Sue for Slavery Reparations (1/2/01)

NAACP Wants Reparations for 1906 Lynching (7/26/00)

Ebony and the Fraud of Reparations (7/19/00)
William L. Anderson
Because a previous tenant of my home did not send an address change to the magazine, each month I receive a free copy of Ebony. While I must admit to not having much interest in the publication, I do know that it is the creation of John H. Johnson, who has made millions of dollars in the cosmetics business and is a very wealthy and successful person. His net worth absolutely dwarfs anything in my account. He made different choices in life than did I and has reaped great financial benefits from them. I have absolutely no reason to resent his success, and I do not. Indeed, I applaud his achievements. But apparently, Johnson seems to believe that I owe him and the other millionaires featured in his magazine reparations for slavery. continue…

Reparations for Slavery? (7/17/00)
By Thomas Sowell
Slavery was not unique to Africans. The very word "slave" derives from the name of a European people -- the Slavs, who were enslaved for centuries before the first African was brought to the Western Hemisphere. continue…

Blacks Gather to Plot Reparations Strategy (6/15/00)
Steve Miller
Black activists gathered in Washington this weekend to plot strategy for reparations. "We want people to know why we're here, how we got here and allow the world to see who the real criminals are," said Dorothy Lewis, co-chairman of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America. Those criminals, she said, were the Founding Fathers, and the nation's prisons are filled with their victims. continue…

At Least Consider the Idea of Reparations (6/16/00)
By Gwen Daye Richardson
Last month, Chicago aldermen voted 46-1 for a resolution urging Congress to study the question of reparations. The measure passed after experts testified that African-Americans continue to suffer even though slavery ended after the Civil War. I'll admit that I once believed reparations was a waste of time. But after hearing some of the arguments, I believe it at least deserves a public hearing. continue…

Black Pharaohs and Reparations (6/8/00)
by Richard Poe
White people are not the only ones who have conquered, colonized and enslaved their neighbors. Black Studies mavens exult in their ancestors' conquests, yet turn around and tell whites that we must be ashamed of ours. My book Black Spark, White Fire suggests that whites might have just as good a reason to demand reparations from blacks as the other way around. continue...

A Game of Racial Envy (6/7/00)
by Johnny Reb
If Earl Ofari Hutchinson somehow manages to persuade Americans that he's got something coming to him, he'll damned sure not get a dime from me. I'd sooner rot in hell. continue...

Black Stalinists Will Fail (Reply to Robert George) (6/6/00)
by David Horowitz
The greater the privileges enjoyed by blacks like Randall Robinson and other reparations claimants, the greater their hatred for America. For them reconciliation with America can only take place with the humiliation of America. Reconciliation will never happen on these terms. continue...

David Fights the Racial Goliath (6/2/00)
by Robert A. George
Horowitz's latest column tackles the "reparations" debate. On the whole, he is correct. However, in order to "win" rhetorically, the polemicist in him exerts too much authority. As one observer put it, describing Horowitz's temperament, "Once a Stalinist, always a Stalinist." continue...

Reparations are Still a Bad Idea (6/5/00)
by David Horowitz
The existence of millions of very successful, middle-class African Americans refutes the idea that the deprivations of the black underclass are, in fact, caused by any historical forces like slavery and segregation. continue..

by Earl Ofari Hutchinson
In 1952 Germany agreed to pay reparations to Israel. Ben-Gurion... understood that collective suffering and victimization demanded collective restitution. continue...

Ten Reasons Why Reparations for Blacks are a Bad Idea (5/30/00)
by David Horowitz
It began as a fringe proposition favored by the politically extreme. But the idea that taxpayers should pay reparations to black Americans for the damages of slavery and segregation is no longer a fixation of the political margin. It is fast becoming the next big "civil rights" thing. continue...
