Palestinian Paradise By: Lowell Ponte

WHAT DRIVES THESE ARAB KAMIKAZIS to wrap their young bodies with high explosives, disguise themselves as Israelis, and become delivery systems of death – certainly their own and sometimes dozens of others’ – on the streets of Netanya, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and perhaps soon a town or city where you live?

All have been suckled since infancy on a toxic concoction of Arab nationalist and virulent anti-Semitic propaganda.  Most come from a culture of despair, kept powerless, poor, and in refugee limbo by unelected oil rulers and their own leaders’ Arafat-headed unwillingness to reach a compromise for peace as Irish nationalist leaders successfully did almost a century ago.

And most of these suicide bombers reportedly find it appealing that by dying as Shahid, “martyrs,” they are promised a place of honor in the memory of their families and community and a payment to their loved ones of $10,000-$15,000 from radicals and the Palestinian Authority.  Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein just increased his promised payments to Palestinian suicide bomber families to $25,000.  In the West we give half our lives working for a pension or Social Security check.  Giving their entire life in one instant of martyrdom, young Palestinians are told, is their chance to provide benefits for their families.

But for many young men, the decisive factor in becoming suicidal mass murderers comes from their Muslim faith – and the very special heaven to which martyrdom, they believe, is a guaranteed one-way First Class ticket.

Islamic heaven, according to the Koran, the sayings of the Prophet Mohammed (the Hadith) and Muslim sages is not a place where the blessed sit around in white gowns on fluffy clouds plucking on harps for eternity.

Muslim heaven is instead a Disneyland of sensuality or, as one critic describes it, “The X-rated Paradise of Islam.”  Unlike Earth, in this heaven “sin” no longer exists.  Virtually any sensual pleasure desired by those blessed enough to gain admittance is permitted and provided.

We have heard vaguely of “the 72 virgins,” Houris, promised as wives (in addition to his wives from Earth) to each Muslim man in Paradise.  This, in the sayings of the Prophet, is “the smallest reward” someone in Paradise can expect.  (The Tafsir of Surah Al-Rahman (55), verse 72; Book of Sunan, Vol. IV, Chapter 21, Hadith 2687).

These black-eyed beauties will be true virgins, unviolated “by man or jinn” (genie).  And, miraculously, each of the millions of times the man in Paradise has sex with them they will be again virgin.  They will remain eternally youthful and fresh.

Moreover – and here young and sensitive readers are warned to stop reading – as Ibn Warraq of The Guardian quotes the renowned Koranic commentator Al-Suyuti (who died in A.D. 1505), in Paradise “the penis of the Elected never softens.  The erection is eternal; the sensation that you feel each time you make love is utterly delicious and out of this world, and were you to experience it in this world you would faint.  Each chosen one [i.e., Muslim] will marry seventy [sic] houris, besides the women he married on earth, and all will have appetizing vaginas.”

As one 16-year-old Hamas youth leader in a Gaza refugee camp told USA Today last June, “I know my life is poor compared to Europe or America, but I have something awaiting me that makes all my suffering worthwhile…Most boys can’t stop thinking about the virgins.”

And for variety, Islamic Paradise offers more than endless heterosexual pleasure.  The martyrs there will also spend eternity serviced by handsome “boys of perpetual freshness: if thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered pearls” (Koran 76:19) or “young boys…as fair as virgin pearls” (Koran 52:24).  Even on Earth, Allah readily forgives men who repent after engaging in homosexual acts (Koran 4:21).

From a dusty, poor refugee camp in Gaza, the suicide bomber as he explodes will instantly be transported to this Paradise.  This is why many Palestinian bombers behave as grooms preparing for their wedding to “the dark-eyed ones,” and why one young bomber was found to have wrapped his genitals to keep them intact for the exotic heavenly thrills and pleasures awaiting him.

This materialistic heaven is filled with gold, pearls, silk, “fine carpets,” and “jeweled couches.”  (Koran 22:23; 55: 70-77; 56:7-40)  The gardens of Islamic Paradise flow with rivers of water, milk, honey, and wine (Koran 47:15).  The alcohol forbidden to Muslims on Earth can be guzzled in heaven, because this heavenly wine does not cloud the mind (Koran 37:40-48).

This vision of a Playboy-mansion Paradise is hypnotic enough to intoxicate adolescent males and move the blood from their brains to nether regions.  No other mind-altering, judgment-impairing drug is necessary.

But why in recent weeks have two young women become suicide bombers?  The male-oriented Islamic Paradise offers them no harem of handsome young stud-muffins or everlasting orgasms.  At most, a woman who on Earth had several husbands is allowed to live eternally with her chosen favorite.  And presumably a female holy martyr, like a male Shahid, is allowed to bring 70 friends and loved ones into Paradise.

But because the Prophet declared that the “majority of those who entered the fire of Hell were women” (Sahib Muslim Hadith, Chapter 1140), getting a ticket even to a male Paradise would seem preferable.  In any event, this is the only Paradise that Believers in the Koran have.
