Message to Harry: Respect African-Americans Who Love Their Country Or Leave It. By: David Horowitz
FrontPageMagazine.com | Friday, October 25, 2002

Everybody has heard by now about Harry Belafonte’s attack on Secretary of State Colin Powell whom he compared to a slave currying favor with his master. (“When Colin Powell dares to suggest something other than what the master wants to hear, he will be turned back out to pasture.”)

Powell handled Belafonte’s  attack like a gentleman. “I’m serving my nation,” Powell said. “I’m serving this president, my president, our president. I'm very happy to do so. Harry has every right to attack my politics... But we have advanced in this nation where you shouldn't have to rest it on this kind of reference that should have been left in the past.”

Belafonte refused to recant this racially charged gutter attack on one of the nation’s most admired, distinguished and powerful leaders. Belafonte also attacked National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, saying she was “like a Jew . . . doing things that were anti-Semitic and against the best interests of her people.” In other words, according to Harry Belafonte, America is a racist country and American patriots are racists. In Belafonte’s twisted universe, Black patriots betray their own people, who in his eyes are apparently not Americans. In fact, Black Americans are the oldest Americans, brought here in chains 383 years ago, and now the freest and richest Black citizens in the world.

Harry Belafonte doesn’t speak for Black Americans. He speaks for the radical left. He has been a supporter of anti-American causes all his professional life. In 1983 he was a keynote speaker at a rally arranged by the East German Communist police state at which he called on his own country to disarm in the face of the Soviet threat. In June 2000 he traveled to Havana as a guest of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, where he made a tear-filled speech at a rally honoring America’s atomic spies, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

Belafonte’s voice is just the loudest in a Fifth Column chorus that regards America as the “Great Satan,” and whose sympathies lie with America’s enemies. The fact that “progressives” like Belafonte feel bold enough to voice hateful views towards their own country in the midst of a war in which America is under attack, and America is the victim, should be troubling to everyone.

We are now in a war in which the enemy is targeting every American man, woman and child. We need to support leaders like Colin Powell, who is proud of his country even though he is aware that our nation – like every other nation – is not without flaws. Pride in our nation is important in this hour of national crisis, because if we are not proud of our country we will not be able to defend ourselves.

The views expressed in the paragraphs above need to be put before the American public and I intend to do just that. I am planning to run ads in college papers across the country with this “Message to Harry.” The “Message To Harry” campaign is going to expose his thinly veiled attack on America. It will also challenge the left’s ongoing cynical appeal to American Blacks to betray their American birthright.

Powell handled Belafonte’s  attack like a gentleman.  But we are in a war, and need to speak in war tones as well. We need to speak in a voice that is proud of this country, which has made black Americans the richest and freest black people in the world. Because if we are not proud of our country we will not be able to defend ourselves.

I want to take this message to the young people on our campuses, who will be America’s leaders tomorrow. As I write, we are putting together an ad to run in the major campus newspapers. (See a preview of the ad as we move quickly to mobilize this campaign.)

But to place this ad, we need to raise the $58,000.00 media budget in less than ONE WEEK.  I need your help. Now. Please help out with a contribution of $500, $250, $100 or $25.

Sincerely,

David Horowitz

P.S. To make a difference, we need to move quickly.  You can view our progress online as we bring together this campaign, but please help us put together the needed funds in the next several days.  Please insure the success of the “Message to Harry” ad campaign with a contribution of $25, $100, $250 or $500 TODAY.
