Immigrant Muslims have their panties in a bunch again, yet again demanding that the host country modify its habits in order to satisfy the "modesty" of people recently catapulted through time from the year 600.

What is it with these Muslims and their obsession with women's underwear?

Only a few months ago, I wrote in "The Panty Jihad" (published in FrontPage Magazine on June 15) that some self-appointed Muslim spokesmen in a British town were wailing to the skies about the underwear firm of Sloggi, which posted stylized panty ads on a billboard near a mosque. A slanging match ensued, with the Muslims enjoying the advantage of British Labour government protection from having to hear anything unpleasant about their religion or "culture." [sic.] After well, slogging it out for a couple of rounds, Sloggi conceded and took its panties down.

Now, it's hospital gowns in the United States.

The hospital that has found itself scrambling to accommodate Muslim women, and the acute sensibilities of Muslim males, is the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. The refugees in question are from Somalia, where a little girl spread-eagled on a table and held down screaming by several adult women while someone snips off her genitals so she will never experience sexual desire or fulfillment is presumably not regarded as "immodest" in their "culture." [sic.]

Maine Medical Center, noting that many recently arrived Somali women were failing to turn up for their - presumably free - consultations, found that they preferred to go without medical treatment rather than wear a garment that didn't fit in with what they wear to see the doctor back home - apparently several layers of head to toe black draperies, thick socks and a chastity belt.  Rather than respect their choice to die a lingering and painful death, Maine Medical Center set to work getting the gowns redesigned.

There is probably no reader who hasn't tried to unobtrusively snake walk down a hospital corridor, hand behind his or her back in a vain attempt to keep the johnnie from flapping open to the world, but we accept that the point of a hospital gown is to give the doctor and other medical personnel like radiologists unencumbered access to our bodies. Somali women might be surprised to find that everyone in the same corridor is too reoccupied with their own "modesty" to have the faintest interesting gawping at them.

According to AP, "The problem was acute for Maine Medical because 2,000 Somali refugees have come to Portland over the past few years and most of them are treated at the hospital's international clinic. As many as three out of 10 women were skipping their appointments, said Osman Hersi, a medical interpreter at the hospital.

"Tracked down at home, the women whose religion and culture require them to be covered, described to interpreters the horror of being asked to wear the revealing gowns during outpatient procedures. Furthermore, they were publicly humiliated when they had to wait in a hallway in the radiology department."

The Portland hospital gamely jumped right in to the new American tradition of placating Muslims and massaging American culture to make our Western ways acceptable to primitive bigots. A new hospital gown was designed pronto to preserve the "modesty" of these 2,000 Somalis, presumably some of them women. A woman from Mogadishu, clad in a dress, plus a sarong, plus a hijab, allowed that she was pleased that the hospital had considered her "principles." She was speaking through an interpreter, of course.

The new gown designed by the Portland hospital provides more coverage of the patients' hairy legs (perhaps as a favor to other patients) and has a swathe of extra material so their nether regions are also covered. In a final touch that would have driven Yves St Laurent shrieking to his final nervous breakdown, it also has an extra sarong.

This male inculcated obsession with "modesty" bespeaks a fear, not of women, but of the Islamic male, losing control. Only if women disappear are men safe from their being conquered by their own raging desires. And a woman who has been surgically rendered asexual through circumcision - not an Islamic practice but one that flourishes in Islamic societies - will have no desire to stray and cause the husband to lose face - or make demands he can't fullfil. The long and short of all this brainwashing of "modesty" is because in the main, Muslim men are frightened. And we all know what happens when a Muslim man thinks he has lost face because his wife went to answer the door without a grill over her face, or his daughter refused to marry the Pakistani lout the father promised her to when she was six. "Honor" killings provide the answer.

Just a few days ago, a judge in Iran ordered a 16-year-old girl hanged because she had verbally attacked a judge during a trial. (She was apparently prosecuted for having had sex with her boyfriend.) This show of defiance so incensed the judge that he ordered her hanged in public for being "sharp tongued," placed the rope around her neck himself and personally gave the crane operator the signal to hoist her to her death.

The message resounding from every corner of Islam is clear: Let no Islamic man be put in the way of temptation or criticism, because he can't handle it. Do not challenge a Muslim male. The penalty is death.

I refer to the security guard at a boarding school a couple of years back in Saudi Arabia who, when the school broke out in flames and the little girls clad in their nighties managed to run out to safety, drove them, at gunpoint, back into the inferno to die because they weren't clad "modestly" enough to be outdoors. Who knows what males those little escapees in their little nighties might have inflamed if they had managed to complete their bid for safety? You can't be too careful!

Funny how Saudi Arabia never gets its shoulders held to the mat over human rights. Maybe it's because no one can find male shoulders, or a male spine, in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the University of Michigan, which serves an area that has around 300,000 Muslim immigrants has not been slow to mould itself to the diktats of the newly arrived modesty jihadettes. (The Detroit suburb of Hamtramck now has calls to prayer in Arabic assaulting Polish Catholic ears six times a day in the holy cause of multiculturalism.)

Again according to AP, "The hospital is thinking of posting signs on the rooms of Muslim women warning male visitors and staff to check with a nurse's station before entering." My suggestion would be, if they don't want male nurses attending their clitorectomied women who have had their labia grafted together, they might want to consider building a Muslim-funded hospital where their perverse notions of "health care" could be catered to without causing widespread merriment. And without public subsidy -- the Islamicization of America.
